Eye disorders can occur at any time and may not show any symptoms until the disease has progressed to a certain stage. This is why frequent eye care, checkups and exercise are necessary in order to prevent any eye diseases. One of the best ways to reduce the risk of eye diseases is to have a healthy diet which contributes to vision. A healthy diet is important in order to prevent many diseases but certain foods have been proven to improve eyesight

Carrots

These are the most famed veggies that contribute to the improvement of eyesight. The beta-carotene n these munchables are converted into Vitamin A which improves vision and also boosts the immune system. A few servings of carrots per day are a good way of making sure that your eyesight remains at an optimum level. Although carrots are delicious on their own, carrot juice may be a great option for those who are always on the go or prefer beverages.

Oysters

Oysters are another great food that boosts vision. Oysters contain a substantial amount of Zinc which enables the Vitamin A present in the body to create a pigment known as melanin. This pigment protects the eye and improves night vision. About 80 mg of Zinc per day is recommended in order to improve eyesight which amounts to 6 oysters. Alternatives to oysters which are rich in Zinc are beans, nuts and beef. Although the alternatives have a much lesser Zinc content than oysters they are a much more practical food for daily intake.

Orange Juice

Another eye friendly beverage, orange juice is heaped with Vitamin C which improves the function of ocular blood vessels and reduces the risk of contracting cataracts. About 5 glasses of orange juice is the recommended amount by doctors which may seem a little excessive. This may be reduced in lieu of other foods such as papayas and bell peppers.

Peanuts

Peanuts are a great source of Omega-3 fatty acids and Vitamin E which are related to a decrease n the risk of contracting age related macular degeneration and cataracts. Studies show that individuals with low levels of Vitamin E and Omega 3 Fatty Acids are more prone to contract diseases such as diabetic retinopathy and have more sensitive blood vessels around the retina.

Spinach

Spinach is perhaps the best food which contributes towards the improvement of eyesight. It’s full of anti-oxidants, beta-carotene, Vitamin c and Lutein. It protects the eye from the blue light that emits from the sun rays and as a sort of sunscreen. This reduction in oxidative stress improves vision and reduces the risk of eye disorders.

Avocados

Avocados are another great source of Lutein and improve vision. Similar to spinach, Avocados reduce the risk of diseases such as cataracts and other eye disorders. They are also a great source of Vitamin E which promotes eyesight.

Eyes are one of the most sensitive parts of your body and require regular care and checkups. They are also some of the most common age related diseases. Foods are not only a great way of improving eyesight but also the overall health of the human body.
